I thought it might be of interest to some people to see the serenity prayer.

God grant me 
the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
the Courage to change the things I can,
and the Wisdom to know the difference;

Living one day at a time; 
Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace;
Taking, as Jesus did, this sinful world as it is,
not as I would have it:

Trusting that you will make all things right
if I surrender to your will;
that I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with you forever in the next.

What ever your faith or spiritual leaning may be I think there are 3 very important additional items here.

1. Accept hardship as a pathway to peace, in adversity we have the opportunity to be come stronger.

2. To accept the world as it is and not try to force it into the image we have for it.

3. Surrender ourselves to a higher power
