rebates and bills

Things like rebates and bills are always at the bottom of my to-do list, too, and I often don't get to them. My new strategy is to give them their own "time of day".

glad you like it! :)

I got some gold and diamonds as birthday gifts yesterday (50 years old, golden anniversary - get it? :P) so I chose the gold and diamonds font. Glad you like it!

How's the to-do list coming along? It feels good to post your progress - keeps you going.

I loved the font, too

Wish I could do that....

you CAN do that (here's how)

The fonts are free from glitter graphics:

http://glitter-graphics.com/myspace/text_generator.php

I strip out the advertising when I use them. I wrote clean HTML code for "Good Morning" and I have a list of the font names and a grid of how they look. I just do a search-and-replace to change the font name.

But you can do it with the advertisements even easier than that - just use the HTML the site generates for you.

Normy used free graphics from another site (forget the name at the moment). I didn't use that one because you have to register, but there seem to be even more fonts and graphics there.

I didn't register

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

what is the URL with the graphics?

I couldn't find the graphics area on the site. I thought you had to register to get to it. What is the URL?

Graphics and Text

This is the one I usually use for text:

http://www.flamingtext.com/

This is the glitter one:

http://www.glitteryourway.com/

For graphics I either just get them off other people, or if I've got more time I'll google for 'sheep gifs' or whatever.

I then right click and save them to photobucket.

Getting off to a bit of a slow start this AM. Maybe I just needed a little while to collect my energy and I'll be going again in no time. (todayfirst tries to think positive encouraging thoughts... :P )

1:48 PM EST update

I made another itsy bit of progress on the program this AM and now I'm stuck again.

Done:
- Answered a request for information
- Made call to get computer fixed
- Verified updates in Sourcesafe

Todo:
- Meeting
- Get program working :?

"get program working"

I had to laugh when I saw this item on your to-do list. That can be 5 minutes or 5 days - and sometimes the stupidest things take five days to find!!

Don't be frustrated - that's just the nature of programming (as I'm sure you already know).

Eeww....

That's why I hated programming at Uni. I HATE LOOKING FOR THINGS! Same for accounting....aaarrgghhh!!!! One character or one dollar could stuff up everything.

Hope it's more like 5 minutes for you :)

puzzles, puzzles

I LOVE programming! I'm self-taught - never took a class in it. The first time I tried it, I felt like a fish who'd finally been thrown into water. It was the most fun thing I ever did - better than crossword puzzles.

sending energetic vibes your way...

....zzzzzssstt... Energy.... Can you feel it? :)

Yeah...

Thanks, I think it worked :D I feel much better... and I got past the part that I was stuck on earlier. Of course the program still has some problems but that part is solved!

Good evening!

Hee hee, I am winding down for the day as you start it!

Hope you had a great birthday, pro.

Have to go now, am preparing for meetings with 2 brand-new potential clients in the morning - I'm so excited!!!!

Have a great anticrastination day everyone!!!!!!!!! :D

Good luck with the clients!

Good luck with the clients!

hope your meetings go great!

Thanks for stopping by, Milo, and thanks for the birthday wishes! :)

pro's check-in section

I took yesterday off because it was my birthday, so I have all the more to do today. I want to be very efficient. I have an eye doctor appointment at 2:30pm.

pro's CI - 5:15pm

Now it's after 5pm and I have to decide what's realistic for me to do. I divided my work into morning stuff (stuff I need maximum alertness to do) and afternoon stuff (stuff I can do when partially brain dead). Now I need to choose from among the "afternoon" things, so I've removed the "morning" items from my to-do list and replaced them with afternoon items.

I also want to decide at what time I stop and have a guilt-free evening. Oh - I just remembered there's a business owners DA meeting tonight that I want to go to. I may stop for today now.

Looking over my ta-da list... Seems like today was mostly planning. That's okay - some time has to be spent on planning!

  • Made bed (converted futon back into couch).
  • Made and ate breakfast.
  • Got dressed.
  • Picked up apartment.
  • Washed breakfast dishes.
  • Checked mailbox, bought groceries. (I was hoping the second battery for my notebook would have arrived, but not yet.)
  • Took pills.
  • Wrote in journal.
  • Did a review of my to-do list and updated it.
  • Made phone call, but need to call back because we didn't finish talking.
  • Went to eye doctor and came back. I have multifocal contacts now, and they are awesome!
  • Made and ate lunch.
  • Called back my friend.
  • Scheduled time for each of the things on my to-do list to make sure they actually get done. I did this very loosely, dividing work into "morning" (requires alertness) or "afternoon" (can be done when tired).

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~To Do~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

  • Wash lunch dishes.
  • File papers.
  • Enter accounting receipts into Quicken.
  • Review PayPal notifications.

I got as far as Starbucks, then saw someone I knew and went in there to work. Their wifi isn't free, so I used the time to update my to-do list and organize it by the GTD categories (action, deferred, waiting for, someday-maybe).

In making the to-do list, I realized there was a phone call I needed to make (should have made yesterday), so I came back home to drop off my computer and make the phone call before leaving for my eye doctor appointment.

I think what I will do now is go to the cafe and work for a while. I have an appointment on the upper east side at 2:30pm. I live on the lower west side (West Village), which usually means changing trains (yuck - HOT). The cafe is near 6th Avenue, which edges me towards Union Square where I can get the Lexington Avenue train and avoid the change.

On the other hand... If I go to the cafe now, I'll have to bring my computer with me uptown, which is sort of a pain in the neck. It's not very heavy, but it's heavier than carrying nothing.

I could sit here for another hour trying to decide, so I will go to the cafe. :)

My plan is to write in my journal, take my pills while doing this, then go to the cafe or library to work (I'll try the cafe first). I'll file the papers when I get back - don't want to spend my best hours of concentration filing.

The heat wave in New York is close to unbearable. I've been outside for short periods, but really you can't do much more than go from one air conditioned place to another. The temperature is over 100, and with the humidity the head index is 115.

Despite this, I may go to a coffee shop to work - still thinking about that. I get so restless being in my apartment all day. I definitely have to go outside in the afternoon because I have an eye doctor appointment.

Heat...

Not sure if it's convenient but if you don't have to be on the phone, the library can be a great place to work for a change of scenery. They are usually super air-conditioned wherever I've lived!

working in the library

Yes, I've worked in the library before. It's great. The library near me - Jefferson Market Library - is particularly nice. It used to be a court house and it has beautiful stained glass windows. There are tables for using laptops and there is free wifi.

The jail that used to be next to the courthouse - now a garden - was where Mae West was housed after her conviction for public obscenity for her Broadway show.

The cafe I'm thinking of going to is very close to Jefferson Market Library. The advantages are longer hours and iced chai. :) I'm not sure about the outlet situation, though. If there's no place to plug in, I'll go to the library.
