Newbie intro & need help with procrastination and decluttering

Hi,

I'm really happy I found this forum.  I've been a procrastinator for most of my life, and it just seems to get worse over time.  I'm hoping that daily check-ins will help.  The other day, I tried to talk to my dh about finding this forum and how I thought it might help me, and he just looked at me blankly...

I procrastinate in every area of my life, and have read tons of books on this topic (includinig GTD and The Now Habit) as well as all kinds of organizing/decluttering books.... but I'm no better off.  There is so much backlog, and things are being added to it everyday.  I work fulltime for an agency but I am able to set my own schedule and do a lot of the work from home and/or out in the field.  For sake of privacy, I will just say that I maintain about 10-15 projects in any given month.  My work requires daily reports and monthly reports of various lengths.  I am behind in all of these.  I have major decluttering to do in every room in the house as well as the garage.  I would like to start having regular devotional/quiet times.  I am making an effort at getting to places/appointments on time (very difficult for me).  I'm chronically late, and always having to come up with excuses...

So that's a little bit about me. I'm not even sure where to start with all my backlog, but maybe I can do "microbursts."  I'm looking forward to doing the check-in.  Happy Friday!

Thank you for your welcome

Thank you Journey and Agnus.  I have not been able to check in yet, but am thinking about it all the time...

I will go and do my first check in now.

Hi, Valley

Sounds like you've found the right place. I started by microbursting one task: "assess my mess."  Lists don't work for everybody, but I get real anxious about forgetting things and tend to be very distractable, so it helped me to make a master list. But even that was too scary, so I did microbursts like "open a new Word file," and "give it a title." It works!

And, since I'm not doing so great today at whittling my list, at least I can feel productive my sharing a welcome and an idea with a fellow Procrastinator! :-)

Welcome Valley

Ah, yes, chronically late, why does that sound so familiar to me (hehe).

Welcome to the site, you have found the right place!   You might also look at flylady.net for help with decluttering and housecleaning stuff.   Several people in this forum say that the flylady has helped a lot.
