e's somewhat productive day

I notice that I have been ducking certain responsbilities lately, so I am going to state them here: I have not mailed my taxes, despite the facgt that they have been done for over a month, I have not renewed an important service agreement, I have not dealt with some overdue medical paperwork. I hAve not touched my practicum in months.

I have, however, been consistent about doing my daily chores. The laundry is consistently washed, hung to dry, folded and put away each day so the living room does not look like our dressers have exploded. I have taken my medicine consistently. I have loaded and run the dishwasher and unloaded it in the morning. I have kept the sink clean of rubbish. I have gotten to work on time. I have dressed appropriately, been groomed fairly well, and have been on top of tasks at work. My bed is made, the sheets are clean, and my side tables are neat.

All of which is a definate improvement, especially as it is slowly becoming routine

So, I have a goal to reach for. 15 minutes on paperwork, in some form or fashion everyday.

Add in a swish and a wipe for one of the two bathrooms every day.

Use my late days on Friday to go to the Farmer's Market.

Get up by 7:30 so that I have enough done to walk to work again.

Use my Wednesdays to get to work early to handle paperwork I don't have time for.

Work goals: finish shelf reading the 800's, begin the 600's research and requisition appropriate professional digitizing equipment and software by the 15th of June.

Choose one task to finish each week for practicum. This can be done at work during lunch or by staying late for an hour. This week's task: work on the boolean project.

hugs to everyone: I am sorry I have been missing the past few PA meetings, but happily, I have been out of town.

hugs, e

Well, I was pretty ridiculously productive this weekend. My only regret, actually, is not quite having enough time to relax tonight. If things with my bike had gone smoothly, I would have, but I need extra pins for my new chain, so that will have to wait.

okay, i'll bite

I have to know what you feed your worms.... compost?

yup.

I feed them fruit and veggie scraps, tea, coffee, etc, and they make compost (worm castings). They're in a big bin under the kitchen table. Since I made veggie stock today, I fed them all the stuff I strained out. I keep scraps in glass jars in the fridge until I'm ready to feed them.

Very low maintenance. No smell.

The adrenaline you've been living on only leaves you wanting.

potential pets

I keep thinking about your worm feeding, which appeals to
me.  I don't garden, but I do have potted plants on my veranda, and
dislike the amount of food waste that I throw away in the trash. Do you
feed your worms solely vegetables or do they like newsprint, too? What
is the ruling on dairy and meat products?

pet worms

OK, I thought I was weird for having pet rats.  But you guys are weirder than I am.

"The sooner you get behind, the longer you have to catch up." - Steven Wright

pet rats!

I know intellectually that pet rats are fine, but my emotions won't let me go there. I am not most attentive plant waterer, (it  is either too much or not nearly enough water) so worms seem like an unemotional and ecological choice that I can put out into the garden if they don't seem happy.

kromer 11

I've taken the past 2 days pretty easy (perhaps easier than I should have...), now it's time to get back to work.

I'm feeling like I don't even know what I should be doing, so I'm going to take 15 minutes to list all the tasks I need to get done in the next week or so, then divide them up between the days of the week in some reasonable fashion, then check back here in about 20-30 minutes.

I know that the next thing I need to do is to set cells for an experiment, but then after that I'm not totally sure.

kromer 12 CI

OK, lots to do, but I have a plan! (more or less...)

MIT for new research project: Get list of HACs/HDACs in human and yeast

Next up: go set cells for expt, feed or freeze extra cells. (This will probably take about 3 hrs)

Then:
1)Find and print 2 articles on HACs/HDACs
2)report graffiti
3)Email about harambee
4)Email about grad ticket
5)Walk home
6)Pay house bill, pick up checks from mailbox
7)Print jobs check-off sheet
8)Get list of HACs/HDACs in human and yeast
9)Finish reading about biochem of transcription
10)Read the 2 articles on HACs/HDACs
11)Post list of what I've accomplished on new research project

OK, I can do this. Off to lab!

Falcon CI Monday

Happy Monday!  And happy memorial day holiday to those of us in the states!

I've been having a slightly rough week -- not sleeping well, appetite is off, been fatigued and out-of-it.

It's nothing serious, just some minor health issues and some mental/emotional stuff that's been on my mind.  But I don't have to tell you, my fellow pro buddies, how feeling out of sorts can make getting anything done seem exponentially more complicated.

Besides wanting to procrastinate, I'm finding it hard to do triage -- there's a lot that I would like to do, and I don't have the energy for all of it, so I'm having to sort out priorities.

This HAS to get done today, so I'll put it first and then check back in:

  • Finish breakfast
  • Write grocery list
  • Get groceries
  • Make potato salad for picnic

Let me see if I can get that done by, say 12:00

Falcon

feel better Falcon!

Feeling out of sorts is not good :( Sending positive thoughts your way!

Falcon CI reboot

Ooh, yikes!  I ate breakfast, then wandered off on surfing the net and it's 11:15 already.  So much for getting the potato salad made by 12:00.

Let's see if I can reboot myself. . . ready, set, go!

Falcon

Falcon CI back from store

O.k., I'm back from the store and am gonna put the potatos on to boil now.

Falcon

Falcon's potato salad

. . . is done, and the kitchen is a wreck.  Cleaning it is looking like a herculean task.  So.  Set timer, do a little net surfing till it goes off, then take a deep breath and tackle the kitchen.

Setting timer now. . .

Falcon

Falcon CO

I'm plodding at the rate of a reluctant turtle today, but the kitchen is now back to where it was -- not exactly clean & tidy, but no worse than it was yesterday.  Sometimes just drawing even is an accomplishment!

Have a good evening, everyone!

Falcon

Feel better, Falcon!

Hope you feel better soon, Falcon!

pro's CI - 8:45am

Good morning! As I wrap up my computer-rebuild project, I am transitioning to the big "go through pile and do accounting" project. I'm on vacation this week specifically to do this.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Procrastination is the grave in which opportunity is buried.
Go through pile project
Hi Pro,
Ooh, go through pile and do accounting. . . doesn't that sound like fun?  Wink  Good for you for tackling it.
Do you have plans for breaking it up throughout the week?
I know if it was me I'd need to schedule either short work stints on it, or small sub-goals for each day. Otherwise "pile project" would just be this huge boulder in my week, and I'd find myself doing everything else while thinking that I SHOULD be doing the pile project.
Best of luck with it, & let us know how it goes!
Lark @ 8:45am
Gee, I'd like to plan something exciting--or even interesting--today. This spring has been so hum drum so far. I guess I'll play catch up this morning while the weather is nice (rain later, they say). There are a few things which should've been done last week, and I just don't want to drag them far into this week.
To do:
morning things
spiritual time
finish big project (nearly done!!!)
finish small project
housework
check in after lunch
journey monday morning 8 am and yesterday's meeting comment
I attended my first online PA chat meeting yesterday! It was awesome! Much food for thought, and fun too. I'm usually cooking for the kids on Sunday afternoon, so I won't get there often, but I'll definitely come back when I can.
Today is a holiday for me. I didn't get as much done yesterday as I wanted, and I ate too much cake and ice cream. Still it was a moderately productive day and I enjoyed it.
Today, I'd like to finish ALL the laundry for a change, clean the guest bathroom, dust the tchochkes in the living room, find a place to donate the stuff that i've cleaned out of the closet over the past few months, along with finishing up the normal housework and making a nice memorial day dinner. (burgers of course). Not sure if the kids are coming over - her parents have a lake house so they went for the long weekend. Lucky them! They've invited us to go several times, but the one time we went it wasn't really our thing. They like to stay up late drinking and smoking and then sleep til noon - since I don't do any of those things anymore it's not much fun for me! Since the baby came along though, we might try it again. I could go to bed early and get up early, using the baby as my excuse!
OK, I'm rambling, so I'm going to get dressed flylady style and get busy. Have a great memorial day everyone in the US and for those of you not in the US - Happy Monday!
Hi!
Wow, what a great day! :)
Even though I didn't have the condo *perfectly* cleaned up, my friend came over and we had a great time! :) Since they were going to a cookout later, we had a salad lunch, then had fun playing dolls :) They even helped me with a Procrastination Project -- we deboxed 20-30 doll outfits -- that has been on my list to do for over a year!!! I love my dolls & doll outfits, but sometimes can have a backlog on getting them out of the box lol!
After their visit, I had a burger had a favorite local spot, then used a coupon for a discount on Unmentionables at a *Secret* location ;) That also marked another item off my procrastination list, because it's been a year since I last got new underthings and it was time.
Tonight: go to support group; meet with sponsor if they are available.
Have a good night, everyone! :)
I took a 1 hour break to play The Sims and I set my alarm so I'd stop at 5pm, and I did! :-D I stopped when the alarm rang! Yay! I Never stick to my time limits when I'm playing PC games! This is a good first step :-) I'm very happy with myself :grin:
Going to continue with my to-dos now ^_^
Hello Edge
I can relate to the PC online or offline games.....I have been using them as a stress reliever, but really they just distract me, so that I dont have to think of anything else.....like all my responsibility of being a single mom.........ugh LOL ....I feel like a lazy loser sometimes....how does a mom get past feeling so guilty....I may just be overwhelmed after all these yrs....Gina  :)
You're not alone
Embarassed I'm also a single mother...not easy at all, and yes it's
embarassing when I get into pc games and spend 1 or 2 hours of prcious time playing silly games forgetting the adult I AM. I believe now it's not a
problem when you're not a procrastinator, and I bet many
can use this games and still do what they NEED to do, but
in my case it's just not possible to consume more time with
something that should be for fun but that in the end in just
an excuse to paralysies. The solution is to don't play for more
than 10 minutes otherwise is an adiction.....sorry for my english
but is not my first language :P:tongue:
Congrats!
I set my alarm so I'd stop at 5pm, and I did!
That's terrific. I sometimes don't even consciously HEAR the alarm. But I'm working on it.
The adrenaline you've been living on only leaves you wanting.
re: congrats
Yay, Edge!  I've been using the timer for WoW for a while, and it really helps.  Sometimes I ignore it for a while, but the time playing after the timer goes off is not fun anymore .  . .
