I thought I could start a NYC meeting, but for personal reasons I cannot. Still there is active interest in a NYC meeting - at least two dozen people have written to me. Anyone with 12-step experience who is willing to start this meeting will have a successful meeting. The meeting materials are on the Web site here:

If you are serious about starting a meeting, send me email and I'll send you the list of people who have written to me about a NYC meeting so you can coordinate with them.
When the meeting is set up, please send me the info on time and place so I can add it to the meeting list on the Web site.

Dozens of people have written to me about meetings in their area, but not one so far has been willing and able to start a meeting. Many don't have 12-step experience, and others simply don't feel up to it.
Usually the way meetings get started in a new fellowship is the founder starts the first meeting and they fan out from there. I'm in New York City and I know there are plenty of people here who would like a meeting. So I'm thinking about doing this. I've got some things in my life that I simply must fix - stuff I've long been procrastinating on. I could use a meeting myself. So maybe I'll bite the bullet and do this. If there is interest.
If you can commit to coming regularly to a meeting in New York City (West Village area), please respond in this thread. Even if you've written to me in email, respond in this thread so others can see what the level of interest is. If there are enough people who will commit to attending the meeting for a period of time (long enough for the meeting to get get a foothold and become self-sustaining), then I'll do it.

Hi guys. I posted something in December about looking for people who were interested in starting an NYC meeting and didn't realize there was a response until going into the thread to post the same thing again...
Are you all still there? If so, let's do this together. My experience with starting meetings is that, on my own, I will procrastinate it forever, but with two or three people, it's pretty easy to get started. We can meet at a cafe/diner at the beginning if need be. Or it's summer now, so we could meet in the park. It would be such a gift to have this fellowship for those who need it.

I started a face-to-face meeting in my area (MA), and there are still two active meetings in Michigan.
Someone also just started (or is starting) one in Canada.
I'd be more than happy to speak with you about my own experience with this, and the person who founded the MI meetings has been very generous in sharing their experience with me, as well. They'd also be a good person for you to contact.
The one thing I'd suggest is to take your phone number down as you never know who might stumble upon it here. If someone contacts you through the member list by e-mail, you could then send them your number privately. That's what I do.
Of course, the choice is entirely yours!

I'm required to write something besides yes but I'm completely new to this site (first time here) so there's nothing more I can say right now. If there really is interest I will try to do the work to get it going but I AM an avoider so I foresee problems doing that. I also went back (this board is HARD to follow!) and see that this meeting has not worked out as of LAST YEAR. Very disappointing.

i like your choice of username. it took me a little whie to figure out how best to use the board soo, so don't feel alone. I set the main PA homepage as my Internet Explorer homepage, scroll down right to Active Forum Topics and click on today's date.
I usually spend some time catching up with everyone's news (I'm a late-in-the-day poster compared to most here), occasionally reply to a post, and put my own entry together. I also scan Recent Comments to keep up as the day goes on. As you'll see, sometimes some of us just "show up" even if we aren't feeling up to a full post. So, keep coming back. Hope to see you around the boards.

I've been looking for a procrastination group in nyc and haven't been able to find one. I just stumbled onto this thread. Can anyone help provide me with information? I live in Manhattan. Thanks in advance.

can we just start a meeting in nyc? why not? we could even meet in a coffee shop until therte were a few members to pay rental. how about one evening per week? or saturday morning? i am interested in a 12-step style meeting. I prefer the structure and format of AA/12-step type meetings. the experience of those types of meetings (eliminating cross talk and finding a way to get into action) would be useful. but i am discouraged to see that this post goes back a few years and still no group. can't we just keep it simple and start the group by meeting, say, in a large starbuck's in the village?

I think I'm very delayed in seeing this posting (just found the website a couple weeks ago), but I would absolutely love to attend a procrastination 12-step meeting. I do have 6 years' experience in the program; however, while I have maintained my drug and alcohol sobriety for almost 5 years, I continue to struggle with my food in OA. It's been a long road. For me, my bingeing started DIRECTLY with my compulsive procrastination - marathon all-nighters in high school were not particularly common.
Anyhow, nuge1, if you're still interested in getting a group together at a proxy location as a starting point, I would definitely attend. We could even meet outside while the weather is still nice! I've been to excellent meetings in people's homes, on the beach... wherever 2 or more fellow sufferers join, there is a solution.

I'm not able to start the meeting myself - I thought I could, but I can't. So I really hope you do it. I have probably a couple dozen names and email addresses of people in NYC who want a meeting. Do you want me to send this to you? This meeting will succeed if it's started - it just needs someone familiar with 12-step to start it. All the meeting materials are on the site and there is plenty of interest.

Very cool online meeting on Sundays
Hi, I'm originally from NY myself. I'm overseas now. Was looking for a phone meeting but it seems to have fizzled out. Yesterday, I tried an online meeting for the first time. I was pleasantly surprised. Very neat experience. It takes place on Sundays at 3:30pm NY time. Steps and tools get pasted in. Shares are typed in. I learned some interesting things. Everything gets erased right after the meeting for anonymity.

I just looked through my list of previous emails, and quite a few people from NYC have asked about face-to-face meetings. I just sent an email to them all. If everyone who wrote me is still interested, we might be good to go on a meeting in NYC. I'll report back.
Once we have enough people, I'll start looking for a meeting space. We will be communicating in email to arrange day, time, etc., so email me if you want to be part of this historic first meeting of the PA fellowship!

I've started meetings before, and I'm not interested in sitting there by myself for an hour each week. There has to be a core group who will commit to coming every week for a couple months. That's how you build it. And then they will come. If people show up and there's just one other person there, they won't stay or they won't come back.

Hi Pro,
I'm not too far from NYC, and might be able to make an occasional meeting. It would be great to meet fellow PA folks. Just wondering -- are you thinking of it as a general support group, or would you want it to be a more traditional 12-step program? I probably wouldn't attend a 12-step program (just not my cup of tea,) but I know they are very helpful for a lot of people.
